Under the guidance and support of the President of Al-Furat University, Dr. Munir Aroud, the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Raqqa Branch organized a research field tour for its students to the Church of Our Lady of the Virgin and Al-Wahda Primary School in Deir ez-Zor, under the supervision of the Head of the Syrian Scientific Council, Dr. Samer Karam.
The tour included the use of a 3D laser scanning device and an advanced camera from the laboratory of Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany. This device is distinguished by its ability to collect highly accurate coordinates for a large number of points using laser beams, enabling precise documentation of sites and structures. It surpasses traditional surveying instruments such as the Total Station, which require a full field team to operate.
These modern technologies contribute significantly to the preservation of architectural heritage and the creation of accurate plans, highlighting the importance of scientific research in developing new tools that support civil engineering.
