Dr. Engineer Nova Ahmed Jumaa, Dean of the Faculty of Petrochemical Engineering at Al-Furat University.
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mounir Al-Aroud, President of Al-Furat University, and under the supervision and follow-up of Professor Dr. Ali Amrir, Vice President of the University for Scientific Affairs, a scientific lecture was organized in the College of Agricultural Engineering today, Thursday, 5/21/2026, in Ibn Al-Bitar Amphitheater, entitled delivered by Dr. Fawaz Al-Hussein, member of the Syrian-German Scientific Council and researcher at the Fraun Hofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research.
The lecture targeted students of the College of Petrochemical Engineering out of belief in the importance of early establishment of a culture of safe and sustainable disposal of solid, liquid and gaseous waste for college students and the role of applied chemistry, which represents the backbone of sustainable development in reducing the carbon footprint and the circular carbon economy.
The researcher, Dr., reviewed some innovative and practical solutions for producing sustainable energy from these wastes that are converted into fuel without having negative effects on the environment. He focused on the production of hydrogen, which is considered the cleanest type of energy, as its combustion produces nothing but water vapor, in addition to how to produce other types of biofuels, such as biogas and biodiesel, thus reducing the consumption of fossil fuels, which contributes to achieving economic, environmental, and social security for societies, guarantees the rights of future generations to underground wealth, and reduces pollution phenomena. Which our Earth suffers from due to the combustion of fossil fuels, which contributes to protecting the environment.
The importance of this lecture comes from the fact that it presents possible solutions to rid our country of the tons of pollutants that are randomly disposed of, which has a negative impact on the environmental system, especially at this time when we are in dire need of benefiting from human energies by laying the scientific foundations that will be relied upon to contribute to the reconstruction of what was demolished by the former regime.
This lecture highlighted the role of petrochemical engineers in addressing environmental pollution and providing scientific and practical solutions to rehabilitate infrastructure, manage waste, and repair damage to ecosystems in Syria,
As well as designing mechanisms to reduce pollutants and establishing scientific bases for treating them, and the contribution of graduates to reconstruction by employing their expertise in creating sustainable building materials and using modern science and recycled materials to speed up construction processes and show the modern civilized face of our cities to ensure environmentally friendly urban and industrial development.
Al-Furat University follows an active strategy with its students that translates its academic vision, which believes in integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application through holding conferences and organizing lectures and scientific trips that enhance the knowledge of its students and develop their knowledge.
